Help us on our way to nonviolence.

Dear Friends in Peace:

We are connected in Peaceful Tomorrows not only with one another but with every human who has ever believed in, chosen, worked for a nonviolent solution to a desperate problem. Joe Quinn, a veteran of Afghanistan, who lost his brother on 9/11, appeals to us to "End the war" in his powerful reflections published today as The Real Lesson of September 11.

Across all times and all civilizations, we are joined with all who ever mourned the deaths of others carried out by those filled with the poison of hatred. We are for ourselves and them, the voices who today demand to be heard,
who insist unceasingly that humanity is best served and best preserved by nonviolent solutions to conflict and injustice.

In our personal and political actions, we are guided by Reverend King's practical warning: violence sows seeds of violence. Rooted in our own and the world's sorrowful suffering, we reject the illusion that revenge or retribution will result in the peace we and the world long for. Instead, we insist, as individuals and as peoples, that we will undertake the work of finding and developing effective, long-term, just, and yes, even merciful, nonviolent resolutions.

So, while the duty is still ours to fulfill, let us support the workers in the field, and the mission of September Eleventh Families for Peaceful Tomorrows.
