L'Italia riuscì a salvare la democrazia, grazie a tantissimi uomini e donne che scesero in piazza contro lo stragismo di Stato e le Brigate rosse senza nessuna paura. A Brescia, fu fatta esplodere una bomba che fece 8 morti ed oltre 100 feriti. Un lunghissimo periodo di guerra alle istituzioni e agli uomini e le donne che le difendevano. " Il sonno della ragione genera mostri". Per vincere il mostro occorre interrompere il sonno della ragione. Occorre la ragione per vincere i mostri. Il male sotto forma di violenza, assume diversi aspetti, ha diverse gradazioni: la situazione limite del male, è il male radicale che l' America da anni vive, razzismo e stragi, uccisioni di innocenti da parte delle Forze dell'Ordine. Il male per il male su cui ha scritto pagine indimenticabili Primo Levi nell'ultimo suo libro, I sommersi e i salvati. Il male compiuto senza altro scopo che quello di fare del male. L'America si è persa entrando in un labirito. L' impossibilità di far comprendere l'abnorme diffusione delle armi. Armi da guerra che provocano stragi di innocenti. Dire di no! La via di uscita da una tragendia sotto gli occhi di tutto il mondo.

E visto i suoi limiti. L'atto di forza a cui abbiamo assistito non è mai stato nemmeno lontanamente un colpo di Stato perché il presidente uscente non ha dalla sua parte né l'esercito né gli apparati dello Stato. Ma l'atto finale di un narcisista leader populista, privo di forza ideologica, ma solo capace di parlare al lato più irrazionale della gente".

"Il trumpismo continuerà ad esistere e a influenzare la politica americana anche dopo Trump. Ma il suo estremismo peserà soprattutto sul partito repubblicano, spaccato e dilaniato da una crisi d'identità che non si sanerà a breve e di cui spero i dem sapranno approfittare alle elezioni di MidTerm del 2022 e alle presidenziali del 2024. Certo, Joe Biden dovrà trovare soluzioni economiche e politiche adatte alle esigenze di quell'elettorato che ha trovato rifugio in Trump ma per natura e valori appartiene alla cultura dem".

Quali risposte?
"Biden dovrà sforzarsi di essere un presidente energico. Capace di affrontare i problemi concreti dei lavoratori. E dovrà farlo fin da subito, nei primi 100 giorni. Occupandosi di distribuire capillarmente il vaccino e subito dopo di distribuire aiuti economici adeguati. Purtroppo, la pur conquistata maggioranza al Senato è più risicata di quel che speravamo. Sarà costretto a fare mediazioni, portando avanti politiche centriste. Ma con l'aiuto di qualche repubblicano coscienzioso può fare molto per lavoro, immigrazione, ambiente".

Le organizzazioni di destra che abbiamo visto in piazza sono cresciute durante la presidenza Trump. Gli sopravvivranno?
"Un numero enorme di gruppi d'odio e milizie di destra armate ha trovato riparo all'ombra del presidente. Sono l'eredità peggiore che lascia al suo successore e toccherà farci i conti. Ma penso che torneranno ad essere un problema locale. Grave: ma, con le corrette azioni, contenibile. Sui grandi numeri quel tipo di attivismo politico è comunque destinato a restare marginale".

Perfino nel gabinetto Trump c'è chi parla di applicare il 25esimo emendamento e allontanare il presidente dalla Casa Bianca prima del 20 gennaio...
"Sarebbe giusto. Ma non accadrà. Le figure forti e indipendenti del suo gabinetto sono poche. Gli altri sono politici di serie B e C che gli devono tutto. Tireranno avanti per altre due settimane, sperando di tornarsene presto a casa".
